There are two different licensing schemes for Strategy Web 9.x - one based upon the number of named users and the other based upon the number of Central Processing Units (CPUs) and Clock Speed.
For information regarding the working and enforcement of the CPU/Clock Speed licensing scheme in Strategy 9.x, refer to the following Strategy Knowledge Base technical note:
KB7496: How does the CPU/Clock Speed licensing scheme work in Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x
When Strategy Web ASPx 9.x is used with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) as the Application Server, processor affinity can be configured through the MAWebAff.exe processor affinity tool. This tool is installed in the Strategy Web ASPx directory (Program Files\Strategy\Web ASPx) and may be launched by double-clicking on MAWebAff.exe.
This tool allows users to select the desired number and combination of CPUs available in the machine to be used with Strategy Web ASPx, up to the number of CPUs specified in their licensing contract. No more CPUs can be selected once the limit has been reached.
Changes made to the processor affinity through the MAWebAff.exe tool will only affect the process where Strategy Web ASPx runs in. This will also affect other applications running in the same process.
In Microsoft IIS terms, this translates to Application Pools. Thus, applications running in the same Application Pool as Strategy Web ASPx will be affected by the use of MAWebAff.exe tool (in other words, these applications will be restricted to use the number of CPUs specified through the tool). However, applications running in different Applications Pools will continue to work as normal.
