Oracle databases have an encryption capability called 'Transparent Data Encryption' where a special column is defined as encrypted without writing a single line of code. When users insert the data, the database transparently encrypts it and stores it in the column. Similarly, when users select the column, the database automatically decrypts it. Since all this is done transparently without any change to the application code, the feature is called simply Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
Currently, Strategy has not done any specific testing on the repercussions of this Oracle functionality on the metadata, warehouse, Statistics, Enterprise Manager, History List or Narrowcast repository tables.
However, customers who have implemented this functionality on the database side, have not reported any problems with the data transfers, performance or schema/warehouse catalog issues.
There is no official supportability or certification for this type of Oracle encryption tool by Strategy, however since the tool itself is meant to be transparent to the application the use of this tool has not been proven to affect Strategy.
