The Strategy Developer Library (MSDL) contains information and instructions on how to deploy a custom widget to Strategy Intelligence Server and Distribution Servers.  This is necessary to be able to deliver custom widgets through email or file attachments, or Flash exports:

 https://resource.microstrategy.com/MSDZ/MSDL/901/docs/VI_Deploying_Widgets_from_Adobe_Flex_Builder.htm#eploying_a_custom_widget_to_MicroStrategy_Intelligence_Server

However, the instructions are written specifically for Windows environments, as the step to copy the SWF file for the custom widget mentions the following path:

Sample Code/Error
Copy the custom widget Flash file (SWF file) from the swf folder in the Strategy Web installation directory to C:\Program Files\Common Files\MicroStrategy\swf.

For Intelligence Server Universal environments installed on Unix/Linux, the custom widget Flash file should be installed to the following path instead:
Sample Code/Error
../install/swf

Note: If there are clustered Strategy Intelligence Servers, the swf file must be copied to the same directory structure on each node in the cluster.

Note: For custom visualizations, the directory should be the following:
Sample Code/Error
../install/VisFramework
