KB33423: "Apply selections as filter" option resolves a Grand total display issue but causes additional issues when exporting a dashboard to Flash in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.x

SYMPTOM
Users notice that in order to resolve the issues described in Technical Notes TN31137, where the Grand Totals in a grid disappear when the grid is targeted by a selector, and KB17761, regarding metric aggregation when selecting the 'All' option, the new selector functionality in Strategy Web 9.0.1 called "Apply selection as filter" has to be used.  However, this introduces another issue when exporting the same document to Flash (MHT), described in TN33200, where the selector cannot be used in the MHT file because it requires a connection to the Web Server.

This is shown in the images below:

Subtotals are displayed, but grand total is missing.

After applying 'selector as filter' option, the Total option in the selector is gone, but the grand total appears now.

However, trying to export this document to flash as MHT will throw the error in the image below.

Sample Code/Error
Please note that this document contains selectors set to apply selections as filter. Such selectors will not operate offline.

CAUSE

This is a known limitation of Strategy Web 9.0.1. The Grand totals could not be displayed when grids were targeted by selectors before and the setting "Apply selection as filter" was introduced to address that issue. Since the setting requires a connection to the Strategy Web Server, the issue still remains for MHT exports.

ACTION

Currently, users will have to determine how the dashboard will be consumed.  If there is no need to export the dashboard to Flash format, the Apply selection as filter option can be used to address the issue in Strategy Web.  However, if the dashboard needs to be exported to Flash, then Strategy Technical Support can be contacted to obtain the latest status of the issue with Apply Selections as a filter option with MHT files.
