Article outlines why the error message "Invalid information. Please correct the marked fields and try again" appears when connecting to an Intelligence Server from the Web Administrator Page in MicroStrategy Web 9.x.

SYMPTOM:
When adding a new Intelligence Server instance for the Strategy Web Administrator page to connect to, the following error appears even though all of the information needed is present and none of the fields are marked as invalid.

Invalid information. Please correct the marked fields and try again.

CAUSE:
The reason why the Intelligence Server information could not be saved even though all of the required fields are filled, is that the sys_defaults_<I-SERVERNAME>.properties file for the Intelligence Server instance is not created.  A sys_defaults_<I-SERVERNAME>.propertiesfile is a file created by default for a specific Intelligence Server if any of the connection properties differ from the default values specified in the WEB-INF\xml\sys_defaults.xml file.  The file not being created could be caused by an access issue to WEB-INF\xml directory, which is where all of the configuration files are created and saved.

ACTION:
Administrators should investigate the ACL's permission on the WEB-INF\xml directory to ensure that both the user accounts that are running the Intelligence Server and Web Server processes have write and modify access to the directory.  The user(s) need to be able to create the properties file, and also modify it.

WORKAROUND:
Users can manually create a sys_defaults_<I-SERVERNAME>.properties file in the WEB-INF\xml directory in order to connect the Intelligence Server:

1. Create a new sys_defaults_<I-SERVERNAME>.propertiesfile in WEB-INF\xml with the following two lines below:

showLoginPageAfterLogout=false
keep_alive=true

Note: These values are not required in the file, but are simply examples of parameters that can be in the log.  These two specific parameters control the check boxes for "Keep Connection Alive between the Web Server and Intelligence Server", and "Show Login Page after Logout".  As it is not recommended to manually create a server properties file, contact Strategy Technical Support for more information on other possible parameters.

3) Modify the AdminServers.xml, located in the same directory, to contain the name of the Intelligence Server that needs to be added.

<servers version="1.0">
  <server conn="false" name="Test"/>
</servers>

4) Navigate back to the Web Administration page to see that the Intelligence Server is appearing on the list of available servers. Click the "Connect" button for the web server to connect to the Intelligence Server.

Note: While the workaround allows the Intelligence Server to be connected, if there is still an access issue to the directory, administrators may not be able to make any modifications to the server Connection Properties.  Strategy Technical Support recommends that the access issue be resolved in order to allow the properties file to be created automatically upon server connection, as well as allow modifications to be made to the connection properties.
