KB33796: "Install has been deactivated due to a node lock situation" error message appears in the DSSerrors log when the MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 9.x is deactivated

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
The following error message appears in the DSSerrors log when the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x gets deactivated automatically.

Install has been deactivaded due to a Node Lock situation

Deactivation Code = XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

CAUSE:
This error message means that the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x could no longer find the unique machine identifier (MAC address of the Network Internet Card on Windows) that it was activated with the last time during the activation verification. Therefore, the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x  thinks that it is running on a different machine and that it cannot remain activated and hence deactivates.
There can be several reasons on why this can happen. Refer to the following Knowledge Base technical note for an outline of four common situations where unexpected deactivation of Strategy Intelligence Server installation occurs on a Windows machine:
KB34095 - Situations leading to unexpected deactivation of MicroStrategy Intelligence Server installations on a Windows machine

ACTION:
Users will need to reactivate the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x installation.
