KB33799: "Error obtaining server instance.: Unexpected error occurred. DATA SOURCE ALREADY EXISTS" error occurs when configuring the Intelligence Server in MicroStrategy Configuration Wizard 9.4.x - 10.x

SYMPTOM
When configuring the Strategy Intelligence Server 9.4.x - 10.x using Strategy Configuration Wizard, after entering the metadata Administrator name and password, the following error occurs:

Error obtaining server instance.: Unexpected error occurred. DATA SOURCE ALREADY EXISTS

CAUSE
The registry contains an instance of the DUMMY_SERVER data source left over from a previous unsuccessful attempt to configure the Intelligence Server using the Configuration Wizard. This can be verified by running the command './mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer li' in the <MSTR_HOME_PATH>/bin folder (use MSTRCtl.exe on a Microsoft Windows operating system platform) and checking to see if the DUMMY_SERVER name appears in the list.

ACTION
The command './mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer di DUMMY_SERVER' can be used on Unix/Linux platforms from the <MSTR_HOME_PATH>/bin to remove this instance. On Microsoft Windows operating system platforms the command 'MSTRCtl.exe -s IntelligenceServer di DUMMY_SERVER' may be used. If this does not work, or no DUMMY_SERVER data source is seen, users should contact Strategy Technical Support for assistance in resolving this issue.
