KB33823: A Derived Element object is not visible from the object browser in a report editor in MicroStrategy 9.x.

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

A Derived Element object is not visible from the object browser in a report editor in MicroStrategy 9.x.

SYMPTOM:
A standalone Derived Element object is created. A user attempts to use the Derived Element object in a report, but is unable to see it when browsing to its location using the object browser in report editor.

CAUSE:
Standalone Derived Element objects cannot be used in a regular report.

ACTION:
To use a standalone Derived Element, connect the Derived Element to an attribute in a report that is connected to an intelligent cube, or to an attribute in a Grid/Graph in a Report Services document. A Derived Element can only be connected to the attribute used to define the Derived Element.

In a Report or Document:

  1. Right-click the attribute to create or modify derived elements for, and click Derived Elements. Warning: If an attribute already has a derived element defined for it in the report or Grid/Graph, connecting a stand-alone derived element overwrites the existing definition.
  2. Click Link Groups. The Select Group dialog box opens.
  3. Browse to and select the derived element to link to the attribute, and then click Open.
  4. Click OK to save your changes and close the Derived Elements Editor.

Note: The Define Derived Elements (Desktop) and/or the Web Define Derived Elements (Web) privileges are needed when using Derived Elements. These privileges are part of OLAP Services.
