In Strategy Java Web SDK 9.4.1 and newer, it is possible to programmatically build WebExpression by simply passing a string representation of the expression.
Programmatically building WebExpressions is important when customizing actions like answering expression prompts, or dynamically building a custom group, or Report Filter Expression. The signature for this method is as follows:
void populate(java.lang.String expressionText) throws WebObjectsException
Here are some examples demonstrating how this method can be used:
WebExpression.populate("Order@DESC=7541257") Or
WebExpression.populate("@ID < 25.0") Or
WebExpression().populate("Category@DESC in(\"Books\",\"Movies\")") For more information on how to create expression strings following the proper syntax search for the article titled "Filter Qualification syntax" in the following help guide:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MicroStrategy\Help\English\CommandManagerUniversal\cmdmgrhelp.htm (assuming default Strategy installation path) and search for the '
Filter qualification syntax' section.
Note: To use this method successfully, it is important that the objects being referenced are uniquely named across the project. For example, if there are two attributes named 'Year' existing in different folders, the error message "Searching for ‘attributename’ returned more than one match" will appear.
