KB33992: How to display documents in Flash View Mode and Interactive View Mode side by side within another Report Services Document using MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

The use of HTML Containers will allow two different View Modes to be seen at the same time within a Report Services Document in Strategy Web 9.0.1 GA, as seen below:

STEPS

  • Create a dashboard and insert two HTML containers.
  • For each container, right click and go to “properties and formatting > General tab
  • Note that an iFrame source can be defined.  This is where a Strategy Web URL API link can be inserted, as seen below:
  • To obtain the Strategy Web URL API, right click on the document that is to be viewed in Strategy Web.  Right click and go to properties, then right click the link URL and “copy shortcut”, as seen below:

  • Paste the link into a text editor; it will look as follows:

    Sample Code/Error
    http://localhost/MicroStrategy/asp/Main.aspx?Server=WAS-RLAM&Project=Strategy+Tutorial&Port=0&evt=2048001&src=Main.aspx.2048001&visMode=0&documentID=0278AFB1495D6FA3841551B86FEA2FD3¤tViewMedia=8

    Notes:
    • Be sure to change 'localhost' to the actual web server name, if applicable.
    • The currentViewMedia parameter is set to 8, which is the value for Flash View Mode.  For interactive mode, the currentViewMedia will be 2, but follow the same steps to get the URL for the document that is to be viewed in Interactive View Mode.
  • Place the links as the value for the iFrame Source as mentioned in Step 1.  If users want these to be on different tabs, place the html containers on their layout tabs or panels.

Note:
The parent document must be run in Interactive View Mode, Editable view mode, or View Mode.  Currently HTML Containers cannot display as iFrames in Flash View Mode, as noted in KB30546 -  “External websites or URL API embedded in a dashboard Iframe HTML container do not display in Flash mode in Strategy Web 9.0.0.”
