KB34383: How to set password expiration and other password configuration settings using command manager

Community Admin

• Strategy

Command Manager offers several outlines that can be used to modify or set a users or user group password policies and thus can also enable the automation of such processes.

When opening command manager outlines, look for the 'Alter_user' or 'Alter_users' outlines located under the 'User oulines' folder.

Both of these outlines contain the commands for modifying either a groups password policy or a single user's password policy.

For example:
This sample alters some properties for all of the users in a given group.
Group:
ALTER USERS IN USER GROUP <user_group_name>   PASSWORD <new_password>
ALLOWCHANGEPWD TRUE CHANGEPWD TRUE PASSWORDDEXP
IN <new_number_of_days> DAYS
PASSWORDDEXPFREQ <number_of_days>  DAYS

User:
ALTER USER "<login_name>"   ;

Another option is simply modifying the settings from the user manager interface in Strategy Desktop for each user,

Notice how both outlines (edited to show password related commands) have the same settings that can be configured.
With these outlines an administrator user can automate the configuration of the password policies for all or one user at any time by tying it to a batch file and a scheduler.
