KB34501: "Feature transfer error: Access is denied." error occurs when installing MicroStrategy 9.4.x - 10.x on Windows XP

This technical note documents an error that occurs while trying to install MicroStrategy products on Windows XP.

SYMPTOM:
When installing Strategy 9.4.x - 10.x on Windows XP SP3, 32-bit, the following error occurs:

Feature transfer error Feature: 
Strategy Web Server (ASP .NET) Component: 
WebASP_NV_3264 File: 
C:\Program Files\MicroStrategy\Web ASPx\help\WebUser\WebHelp\Lang_1033\Form142f.rra Error: Access is denied.

 
CAUSE:
There is an anti-virus program running which is actively preventing the modification of various file during the install.
 
ACTION:
Disable the antivirus program or add Strategy to the white list of the antivirus software. Also running the installation files from the local hard drive and as an administrator may help the antivirus program not flag Strategy as dangerous.
