KB34544: Extra date conversion functions are included in the where clause of SQL generated for Netezza in MicroStrategy SQL Engine 9.4.x and 10.x

SYMPTOM:

In Strategy 9.4.x and 10.x, SQL is generated with extra to_date functions used in the where clause around date values that did not show up in earlier versions of Strategy as illustrated below

9.4.x and 10.x:

where a11.DATE between To_Date('05/04/2009' , 'mm/dd/yyyy') and To_Date('05/10/2009' , 'mm/dd/yyyy')

9.0.1 and older:

where a11.DATE between '05/04/2009' and '05/10/2009'

Note that no changes were made to the date format or the data type used.

CAUSE:

This behavior change was introduced in Strategy 9.0.2 to prevent incorrect results or SQL generated when performing arithmetic operations on date values.

ACTION:
To workaround this behavior, users can change the Date pattern VLDB property at the database instance or Project configuration level under the Select/Insert folder.
