KB34695: Subtotals set to display at the top of page on reports in outline mode appear in different positions in Developer versus Web

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This article notes differences between outline mode in Developer and Web

SYMPTOM:
When running the same report using Outline mode in Web and Developer, subtotals set to display at the top of the page are shown in different positions.
In Developer an extra row is shown, while in Web the subtotal value is displayed on the row of the related attribute element.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

This issue can be reproduced in the Strategy Tutorial project by taking the following steps:

  • Create a new report in Developer as follows:
    Add `Call Center` to the page-by
Add the `Month` and `Subcategory` attributes to the rows and the `Profit Margin`, `Profit`, `Revenue` and `Revenue Forecast` metrics to the columns
  • Select to 'Display Outline Results'.
  • Display `Total` subtotal at top of page
  • Run report in Developer and note that the subtotal is shown in an additional row:

  • Run the same report in Web and note that the subtotal is shown in the same row as the corresponding attribute element:

CAUSE:
This represents a known issue in Strategy Developer and Web 10. The outline mode is not equivalent between the two features and is not expected currently to show the same behavior.

ACTION:
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and it is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.
