This article describes how to modify the network ports used by the MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server logging services.

The Strategy Narrowcast Server logging system is divided into several components: the Logging Client, the Logging Server, the Logging Consumer, and client receivers.

Logging Client - this service generates logging messages on behalf of the Strategy Narrowcast components running on the local machine. These messages are relayed to the Logging Server. There may be multiple Logging Clients in the logging system if the Strategy Narrowcast system uses multiple machines.
Logging Server - this service aggregates logging messages from Logging Clients. The messages are relayed to the Logging Consumer and connected client receivers. There is typically only one Logging Server per Strategy Narrowcast system, however an additional backup Logging Server can be set up:

Logging Consumer - this service receives messages from the Logging Server and writes them to the DELog. There is one Logging Consumer per Logging Server, located on the Logging Server machine.
Client receivers - clients can connect to the Logging Server to receive relayed logging messages. Client receivers include the Narrowcast Administrator Console, Narrowcast System Message Viewer and custom applications using the Narrowcast Logging API.

These logging services communicate with each other via configurable network ports:

The network ports can be configured by one of two methods:

Method 1 (Recommended) - System Configuration Wizard

Stop the Strategy Narrowcast system.
In Strategy Narrowcast Administrator Console, open the System Configuration Wizard:

In the 'Clustering' section of the wizard, select 'Select and configure multiple machines for a clustered Narrowcast Server system. Click 'Next':

Specify the machine to act as the Narrowcast Logging Server. Click 'Next':

On the 'Review Advanced Settings' screen, click 'Modify':

Modify the ports as desired. Click 'OK':

Confirm the ports in the 'Review Advanced Settings' screen. Click 'Next':

Continue through the Wizard specifying the Distribution Manager, Execution Engines and Sequelink Server. Click 'Finish'.
Restart all Logging Clients, Servers, Consumers and receivers.
Start the Strategy Narrowcast system.

Method 2 - Manually update the logging ports and registry keys

Stop the Strategy Narrowcast system.
In Strategy Narrowcast Administration Console, go to Administration > Strategy Logging Server. Right click on Strategy Logging Server and choose 'Edit':

Modify the ports as desired. Click 'OK':

NOTE: To update the Logging server machine the System Configuration Wizard must be used.
On the Logging Client Machines, open the Windows registry and update the following registry key to match the Receiver and Relay ports specified in step 3:

On the Logging Server Machines, open the Windows registry and update the following registry keys to match the Relay, Consumer, and Buffer ports set in step 3, respectively:

Restart all Logging Clients, Servers, Consumers and receivers.
Start the Strategy Narrowcast system.

WARNING:
Modifying registry values incorrectly may cause serious, system-wide problems that may require the re-installation of Microsoft Windows NT. Any edit of the registry is done at the user's own risk. Since these are user-initiated changes, they are not covered by any Strategy warranty. If using Microsoft Windows NT, the user should backup the registry and/or update an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD) prior to alterations.
