KB34811: “Can't create table 'xxx' (errno: 13)” error message is received when attempting to add new warehouse tables to a project in Microstrategy Developer 9.4.1

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

SYMPTOM:
When a user attempts to add a warehouse table to a project in the warehouse catalog, they receive the following error message:
Sample Code/Error
Unexpected Error.
Database error <5>: Execute Query failed.
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect.
Can't create table 'xxx'
(errno: 13)
Note: This error message is specific to metadatas residing in a MySQL database.
CAUSE:
This error is caused by a missing permission that is given to the metadata user.  Typically, when making modifications to the warehouse catalog the metadata user has the following six permissions:
1. Create
2. Select
3. Insert
4. Update
5. Drop
6. Delete
However, when working on MySQL there is a separate permission called 'Create Temporary Table' which is separate from 'Create Table'

ACTION
Make sure the metadata user has all the necessary permissions including 'Create Temporary Table'.
