"There are no System ODBC Data Sources in the local machine. No Repository tables can be configured." error occurs when selecting "Metadata, History List and Statistics Repository Tables' in the Configuration Wizard in MicroStrategy Universal

SYMPTOM:
When trying to configure the Strategy Intelligence Server system, create metadata tables, or perform other actions that require a metadata connection the following error occurs:

ka04W00000148GYQAY_0EM440000002Wg8.png

Sample Code/Error
There are no System ODBC Data Sources in the local machine. No Repository tables can be configured. Please create a Data Source by using 'Connectivity Configuration Wizard', or choose another operation type.

Checking the odbc.ini file does shown several data source names (DSNs) entries.

CAUSE:
A possible cause for this message is that the odbc.ini file has been modified incorrectly. UNIX/Linux systems are case sensitive so an improper modification where the case was changed ini can cause the issue. For example:

Sample Code/Error

[odbc Data Sources]
SQL-MD-DTMA=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
C2T=tdata
EMPIRE=tdata.so
COLONY-WH-VVMA=tdata.so
SQL_MD_TEST=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
SQL_MD_JACKPOT=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
TMPDSN_1288285286714=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
TMPDSN_1288306192512=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
TMPDSN_1288372509760=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol

The odbc.ini file above will throw the error because "[odbc Data Sources]" section is not properly capitalized. The correct format is as follows:

Sample Code/Error

[ODBC Data Sources]
SQL-MD-DTMA=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
C2T=tdata
EMPIRE=tdata.so
COLONY-WH-VVMA=tdata.so
SQL_MD_TEST=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
SQL_MD_JACKPOT=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
TMPDSN_1288285286714=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
TMPDSN_1288306192512=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol
TMPDSN_1288372509760=Strategy ODBC Driver for SQL Server Wire Protocol

ACTION:
Always backup the odbc.ini file before making modifications. To correct the issue roll back to the backup file. If no backup file exists, try to locate a valid odbc.ini file from a different system or compare the contents to the odbc.ini.example file; making sure all standard headers and sections are properly spelled and capitalized.
