KB34920: "You must complete the qualification before closing. Please enter a valid expression. Overflow" message when creating a filter qualifying on an attribute form using "In List" and a value is greater than 2147483647 on Microstrategy 9.4.x-10.x

This article describes an expected behaviour when a very high number is selected in a filter that qualifies on attribute forms defined as Number

SYMPTOM:
The below message is seen when a very high number is selected in a filter that qualifies on attribute forms defined as Number:
"You must complete the qualification before closing. Please enter a valid expression. Overflow"
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Create a  filter that  qualifies on an attribute.
  2. On "Qualify On" select an attribute form which is defined as Number.
  3. On "Operator" select "In List"
  4. Enter a value greater than 2147483647 and click on Ok. The following message appears:

"You must complete the qualification before closing. Please enter a valid expression. Overflow"

CAUSE:
This is working by design

WORKAROUND:
1. Change the Attribute form data type from Number to Big Decimal on the Attribute Form Editor. The GUI will accept higher numbers then. This is the preferred solution.

2. Use quotes around the values entered, this will force the GUI to treat them as characters, however, this can cause performance issues.
