KB34923: When running a freeform SQL report with a prompt, the answer is passed as static but the prompt name, not the answer, shows up in the freeform SQL editor in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x and 10.x

When running a freeform SQL report with a prompt, the answer is passed as static but the prompt name, not the answer, shows up in the freeform SQL editor in MicroStrategy Developer 9.x and 10.x

SYMPTOM:

A Freeform SQL report shows the prompt name in the editor but the answer is passed as static.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Follow these steps to reproduce the issue in Strategy Tutorial.

  • Create a Freeform SQL report with the following definition:
ka02R000000kbyIQAQ_0EM440000002DuR.png
  • Run the report and save it as static and close the report.
  • Edit the report again and notice the prompt answer is shown in place of the prompt name.  Remove the prompt answer.  Add back the original prompt, then save and close
  • Edit the report one last time and notice the prompt name is there.  Run the report and there will be no prompt but the answer that was originally chosen is used.

CAUSE:

The prompt instance is stored in the report instance if the prompt from the report is removed.  This is the designed behavior in 9.0.1.

ACTION:

Please contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND:

Once this report is this stage, to allow the report to be prompted again a new prompt must be created and used in the report.
