Unable to drill to template from a report with derived elements based off an Intelligent Cube in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.x and 10.x

SYMPTOM:
When trying to drill to a template in Strategy Developer 9.4.x and 10.x from a report based off an Intelligent Cube containing derived elements the following message is shown:

No drill path found

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue in the Strategy Tutorial Project:

  • Create an Intelligent Cube with Year, Quarter and Revenue.
  • Create a report based off that Intelligent Cube and define the report with Quarter and Revenue.
  • Create a template with Region and Cost.
  • Modify the drill map in the report to allow the Quarter attribute to drill to that template.
  • Drilling to the newly created template works as expected.
  • Modify the report so it has derived elements for Quarter.
  • When trying to drill to the other template it will say 'No drill path found'
