When running a silent installation of MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal, the command line returns immediately with no indication that the installation ran.

SYMPTOM:
When running a silent installation of Strategy Intelligence Server Universal, the terminal window returns to the prompt shortly after executing the command without any errors in the terminal or in the silent install log file:

Sample Code/Error
bash-3.00$ ./setupsol.bin -silent -options options.txt -is:log /opt/MicroStrategy/log/silent.log

bash-3.00$

CAUSE:
This behavior might occur if the user running the installation does not have sufficient privileges on the directory where Strategy is being installed, or if the directory specified in the options.txt file is misspelled.  An enhancement has been logged to throw an informational message in this situation.

ACTION:
Ensure the following:

  1. The user running the installation has sufficient privileges to create a directory in the location specified in the options.txt file. To test this, log into the server as the user who will be running the installation, and run the command "mkdir " in the directory where Strategy will be installed. If this fails, the user does not have sufficient permissions.
  2. The directories specified for installation in the options.txt file have no errors in spelling or capitalization. UNIX is case sensitive, and the installation could fail if the the directory specified in the options.txt file has a different capitalization from the actual directory.
