KB35267: In MicroStrategy Distribution Services 9.x and 10.x, is it possible to use a Microsoft Outlook personal distribution list as a recipient when scheduling email subscriptions?

It is not possible to use a Microsoft Outlook personal distribution list as a recipient when scheduling email subscriptions as personal distribution lists do not have a corresponding mailbox configured on the mail server.

QUESTION:

In Strategy Distribution Services 9.x and 10.x, is it possible to use a Microsoft Outlook personal distribution list as a recipient when scheduling email subscriptions?

ANSWER:

Microsoft Outlook allows end-users to create their own personal distribution lists. A personal distribution list is a group of email addresses (as shown below) and is specific to a single user. The name of a personal distribution list is generally not in an email address format (e.g., group@example.com) and even if it is, it does not have a corresponding mailbox (and a valid SMTP email address) configured in Microsoft Exchange.

It is not possible to use a Microsoft Outlook personal distribution list as a recipient when scheduling email subscriptions as personal distribution lists do not have a corresponding mailbox configured on the mail server, hence it is not supported.
