KB36172: Logical Operators (AND/OR) behavior when running reports in MicroStrategy against MDX data sources.

MicroStrategy users running reports against MDX data sources can create multiple attribute and metric qualifications on a Report filter. It is very important to outline the designed behavior of the MicroStrategy platform while using multiple conditions and Logical Operators.

Strategy users running reports against MDX data sources can create multiple attribute and metric qualifications on a Report filter. It is very important to outline the designed behavior of the Strategy platform while using multiple conditions and Logical Operators.

Below, users can find multiple scenarios regarding this Strategy feature:

1. For conditions defined based on attributes coming from different dimensions, Strategy always link the conditions using the AND operator (Year = 2005 AND Category = Books). An example of this behavior can be find below:

2. For conditions defined based on attributes coming from the same dimension, Strategy always link the conditions using the OR operator (Customer State = Texas OR Customer City = St Louis). An example of this behavior can be find below:

3. Also, If both operators are combined, the behavior remains the same:

In all of the cases mentioned above, Strategy is working as designed. It specifically assigns the operator to be used while adding multiple qualifications to a report running against MDX data sources.
