KB36353: 'ORA-01793: maximum number of index columns is 32' error received when executing an Intelligent Cube against an Oracle data warehouse in MicroStrategy 9.x-10.x

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
When attempting to publish an Intelligent Cube against an Oracle data warehouse in Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x-10.x, the following error is received:

Error: SQL Generation Complete
QueryEngine encountered error: Execute Query failed.
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. ORA-01793: maximum number of index columns is 32

CAUSE:
This issue is caused because Strategy is attempting to generate an index with more than 32 columns, when the maximum number of columns on the Oracle side is set to 32.

ACTION:
To resolve this issue, change the VLDB properties of the cube to limit the maximum number of columns in an index. This can be done by navigating to VLDB Properties > Indexing > Max Columns in Index. Set this value to 32, and the cube will be able to publish without error.
