KB36382: "A hierarchy on the template must be related to one or more attributes in the report filter" error is thrown for a report containing a filter on the attribute in the hierarchy along with a filter on a child of the attribute in MicroStrategy 10

This article notes an issue with resolving template hierarchies

SYMPTOM:
The following error is thrown for a report in Strategy 10.x.

SQLEngine got an Exception from DFC:  A hierarchy on the template must be related to one or more attributes in the report filter, or it cannot be replaced by one (or multiple) attributes.

The report contains a filter on an attribute present in the hierarchy object on the template along with a filter on a child attribute which is not present in the hierarchy. An example from tutorial would be a hierarchy containing only region used on a report with a filter on both region and call center.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue with Strategy 10.x.

ACTION:
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and it is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.

WORKAROUND:
To workaround this issue, use an object prompt on the template instead of a hierarchy for situations where a filter on a child attribute is desired, but the hierarchy shouldn't resolve to the child attribute.
