KB36466: How to allow users to edit report design without ability of removing specific objects from the template with MicroStrategy Developer 9.x and 10.x

To ensure the level of data for a report or other requirements, developers may want  to develop a report that can be modified by a user, but contain specific objects that cannot be removed from the grid.  The steps below with explain how this can be done in Strategy Desktop 9.x and Strategy Analytics Enterprise Developer. The result is also demonstrated here in Strategy Web 9.x and 10.x.

STEPS:

  • Using Strategy Desktop or Strategy Analytics Enterprise Developer, create a report with Year attribute and select "Lock Object" on Year attribute.
