KB36574: MicroStrategy Developer 9.x shows that an attribute has object dependents that don't really use the attribute, therefore making it impossible to delete it from the project.

MicroStrategy Developer 9.x shows that an attribute has object dependents that don't really use the attribute, therefore making it impossible to delete it from the project.

SYMPTOM:
When a user tries to delete an attribute, he is unable to do so because Strategy Developer 9.x indicates that several objects still use this attribute. However, some or all of these objects listed are not really dependents of the attribute.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue in Strategy Developer 9.x:

1. Create a brand new project that connects to the Strategy Tutorial Warehouse database;
2. Create one or more facts based on table ORDER_DETAIL;
3. Create an attribute from columns CUSTOMER_ID in ORDER_DETAIL;
4. Update schema;
5. Search dependents of the newly created attribute and notice that all facts created in step 2 are in the list of results. However, these facts are not dependent, or even related, to the attribute.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy 9.x. It is not reproducible for all attributes, and is currently being investigated.

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on the status of this issue.

WORKAROUND:
One possible workaround is to hide the attribute or attributes that cannot be deleted. This can be done by right clicking on the attribute, going to Properties and checking the Hidden check box.
