KB36740: In MicroStrategy Developer 9.x and 10.x, when exporting a report with two attributes to Excel, blank columns are seen in the spreadsheet in place of the missing metrics.

SYMPTOM:

This document explains how additional blank columns are seen in Excel when exporting a report with just two attributes.

The following scenario was reproduced in Strategy Tutorial 9.x and 10.x:

  • Create a report with Year and Quarter as attributes.
  • Run the report and export to Excel.
  • As seen below, additional blank columns are exported.

CAUSE:

This is because the option for ‘Run Export to Excel/Word in 8.1.x in compatibility mode’ is checked.

ACTION:

Uncheck this option and re-run the report.  Now when the report is exported to Excel, the additional columns do not appear.
