KB37027: MicroStrategy 9.x does not recognize that SMT is enabled on AIX

Community Admin

• Strategy

On some AIX systems, MicroStrategy 9.x may not recognize that SMT enabled on if Service Manager is run as a non-root user or when using sudo.

SYMPTOM
On some AIX systems, Strategy 9.x may not recognize that SMT enabled on if Service Manager is run as a non-root user or when using sudo.
CAUSE
If a user does not have access to the "smtctl" system utility then Strategy Service Manager 9.x will not be able to detect if SMT is enabled. This is also true when launching the Service Manager using sudo. The Service Manager process needs to spawn another sub-process to check the smtctl command. If this process cannot access the "smtctl" utility it will fail, this can be confirmed by running a strace.
ACTION:
Run Service Manager as a root user or assign the necessary system level access rights for the smtctl process.
