This article describes potential root cause why when installing MicroStrategy Intelligence Server on a Microsoft Windows system, the installation hangs at the step for Microsoft Primary Interoperability Assemblies

SYMPTOM:
When installing Strategy Intelligence Server on a Microsoft Windows system, the installation hangs at the step for Microsoft Primary Interoperability Assemblies.

The install.log file will show the following:

With the last line only showing:


Installing Microsoft Visual Studio Primary Interop Assemblies

 
CAUSE:
A possible cause for this issue is the installation files were not extracted properly to a single location, thus breaking the links for 3rd party installers.
 
ACTION:
Stop the installation by hitting 'Cancel' or stopping the msiexec.exe process in task manager.
Note: This action might cause the following error message:

Microsoft Primary Interoperability Assemblies was not successfully installed which is required by at least one selected component. Aborting Installation

This error is expected since the installation was stopped manually. 
Ensure the zipped installation file is on a local drive and is extracted to a single location (if possible use the default file path without any modification to it). Then run the setup again and the installation should complete successfully.
