This technical note describe an issue with upgrading the metadata stored in Microsoft Access

SYMPTOM:
When upgrading a Microsoft ACCESS metadata from version 9.x and higher through Strategy Configuration Wizard, the following error occurs:

ka02R000000kZQYQA2_0EM440000002DcF.png

Failed to logically update the metadata.

(The 'Managed Objects' folder cannot be saved, moved, copied or deleted. Item 'Drop Table Method' cannot be
found.Database error <5>: Execute Query failed.
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. The search key was not found in any record. An unrecoverable error occurred during update.
See log file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MicroStrategy\Log\MDUPD-m-dd.log' for details.)

The following errors are found in the upgrade log MDUPD-m-dd.log:

Error saving DBMS object '<object name>'.
UNEXPECTED ERROR: (0x80041404) Database error <5>: Execute Query failed.
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. The search key was not found in any record.
An unrecoverable error occurred during update. See log file 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\MicroStrategy\Log\MDUPD-m-dd.log' for details.

CAUSE:
In this particular scenario the Microsoft Access database system which hosts the Strategy metadata is corrupted. It is unclear what steps led to this state for the underlying Microsoft Access database system, however this is a database system level problem and not a Strategy layer problem; therefore Strategy Administrators should contact their database administrator for more information on the error message and possible causes.

Please note that Access databases are not supported for Strategy Production systems.

ACTION:
It has been noticed that running Microsoft Access' Compact and Repair Database feature resolved this issue. After doing so the upgrade process should finish successfully.
