This knowledge base article documents why "Index out of range" error message appears when editing an attribute in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x

SYMPTOM:
When the user edits an attribute, the following error occurs:

ka02R000000kbtdQAA_0EM440000002DbG.jpeg

Index out of range

If the user copies this attribute and pastes it, the following error occurs:

Error copying '': Method '~' of object '~' failed

CAUSE:
This issue is caused by editing an attribute without any attribute forms. By running the latest ScanMD "Attribute Verification", the check picks up the user fixable error below:

User fixable error : Error : Attribute {'\Strategy tutorial\attribute\test' with ID }'s attribute forms collection is empty.

The root cause of this issue is still under investigation.

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for further assistance. In order to track down the cause of the inconsistency, customers encountering this issue should make note of Schema-related changes, Object Migrations, or error messages prior to experiencing the problem. Change Journaling, if it has been enabled, can help in preserving this information.

WORKAROUND:
For attributes without complete definition, in this case no attribute form exists, the user should remove those attributes and re-create them.
