KB37491: Alignment of text in text boxes in Report Services documents does not appear correctly when text orientation is set to vertical in MicroStrategy Web 9.2.1.

Alignment of text in text boxes in Report Services documents does not appear correctly when text orientation is set to vertical in MicroStrategy Web 9.2.1.

SYMPTOM:
When the alignment of text in text boxes in a Report Services Document is set to "Left" in a document and the document is executed in Strategy Web 9.2.1, the text appears right aligned when the text box orientation is rotated.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

 In Strategy Web 9.2.1:

  • Create a document, insert a couple of text boxes and add text into them.
  • Right click on text box, go to Properties and Formatting > Alignment, and select Left for the Horizontal section
  • Under Text Alignment, change Text Direction from Horizontal to "90 Degrees" :

Note: A horizontal line was used below the text boxes to establish a base line to see the alignment

  • Run the document in Strategy Web.  Notice the text in the text boxes are aligned to the right, instead of left.  This causes the text to appear shifted up due to the text box orientation:

CAUSE:
This behavior is by design in Strategy Web 9.x and 9.2.x.

ACTION:
In order to make the text display properly, switch the height property to fixed value rather than fit to contents.
