KB37495: How to remove double quotes from column names for mixed case columns in MicroStrategy Desktop 9.x for the DB2 database object.

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
Starting in Strategy Developer 9.x, Double quotes will be added around a column alias or column name for tables from DB2 database if the name uses mixed case characters. By default usually Strategy treats all column names as upper case only, however in DB2 (and potentially other databases) mixed case columns are possible in a case sensitive database collation. From Strategy 9.x mixed case columns names for a DB2 database by default have SQL generated with quote characters enclosing the name . A column alias of MaxPmt would be interpreted as MAXPMT. With the quotes, the alias is now recognized as a mixed case and the SQL generated would be "MaxPmt".

This new change  may cause an issue if there are references to a column alias within an ApplySimple statement. If the ApplySimple statement does not exactly match the mixed case column alias, the user will receive an invalid reference error as shown below:

Sample Code/Error
NOT COLUMN OF INSERTED/UPDATED TABLE, OR ANY TABLE IN A FFROM CLAUSE

ACTION:
This feature is working as designed.

WORKAROUND:
There are 2 possible workarounds for this issue:

  1. Rename all column aliases to upper case strings.
  2. Add the double quotes to the column alias names in the ApplySimple statements.
  3. Contact Strategy Technical Support for information on how to modify the column pattern for SQL generation.
