In Unix/Linux, when checking the current destination for any log, such as the DSSErrors.log, the output is given is similar to the following:
<log_destination n="DSSErrors" tp="3" max_size="2048" max_backup="1" callstack_message_ids="0x800438C7"/>
The values presented for the log destination can be interpreted as follows:
log_destination n
The "log_destination n" parameter defines the name of the log. This log is saved by default in the <Strategy_Home>/log location.
tp
The "tp" parameter defines what type of file this is. For example, tp=”3” means this is a Diagnostic Log as 3 is the reference number for Diagnostic Logs.
max_size
The "max_size" parameter is defined for the log is in KB, and the default is 2048 KB. In the case where the log is configured to write to a back-up, when the size given in this parameter is reached the log is written to the back-up location and a new log is created.
max_backup
The "max_backup" parameter is the maximum number of back-up files which can exist for this log. If this parameter is set to 1, once this back-up log reaches its maximum size, the older information will be dropped as newer log information is added to the back-up log file. If this parameter is raised, then the older information will write to new back-up files until this parameter is reached.
callstack_message_ids
The "callstack_message_ids" parameter is an internal flag which will gather extra information on errors. The error message IDs defined in this parameter, such as 0x800438C7, will generate a callstack to gather extra information on the system during the time of the error.
