Derived metric and standalone metric with the same definition return different values in MicroStrategy 9.x and 10.x

  • Create a metric "count day" with definition "Count(Day) {~, Month}", as shown below:
  • Create a report with attributes Month and Day, metrics "count day" created at Step #1 and a derived metric with the same metric definition "Count(Day) {~, Month}".
  • Run the report. Note that the two metrics with the same definition return different values.

CAUSE:

The derived metric is calculated by Analytical Engine. It would be calculated at report level if report level is included.

ACTION:

Remove report level from the definition of the derived metric, modify the metric definition to "Count(Day) {Month}".
