This article describes a potential root cause of the error message "Failed to create a connection to the database: Unknown failed. Unable to connect. Error type: System call error. Error communicating with connection process. Find target process dead  while waiting for reply."

SYMPTOM:
When trying to configure the Strategy Intelligence Server through Strategy Configuration Wizard tool using the command line ./mstrcfgwiz-editor, the following error message is shown:

Failed to create a connection to the database: Unknown failed. Unable to connect. Error type: System call error. Error communicating with connection process. Find target process dead  while waiting for reply.

CAUSE:
One possible cause for this issue is that the DSN ODBC is configured to use UTF-8 character set encoding.

ACTION:
Edit the ODBC.ini file and replace the CHARSET=UTF8 parameter by DriverUnicodeType=1 as in the example below:
Driver=<driver path>
Description=<DSN connector description>
SERVER=<server name or IP address>
PORT=<port number>
USER=<database user login>
Password=<database user password>
Database=<database name>
OPTION=3
SOCKET=
DriverUnicodeType=1
