How to enable document cache and user trace via the GUI for troubleshooting issues with document cache features in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 9.x and 10.x

Introduction
When troubleshooting issues with the document caching features in Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x and 10.x, diagnostic tracing can provide useful information. This technical note outlines the steps to enable diagnostic tracing used to troubleshoot these issues.

Diagnostic Tracing for Document Caches
The creation and deletion of document caches can be traced with the diagnostic option Document Server > Cache Trace.

How to Enable These Traces

1. Open the Strategy Diagnostics Configuration Tool.

2. Select 'CastorServer' Instance under 'Select Configuration'. This will ensure that activity on the Intelligence Server, the component responsible for managing caches, is tracked.
3. Uncheck the option `Use Machine Default Diagnostics Configuration'.
4. Look for 'Document Server' under Component column.
5. For the Document Server component, under the second column `Dispatcher` look for the Cache Trace.
6. For this row, go to the last column 'File Log' and click on the <None>, drop it down and select New.
7. This will bring up a new window. Specify the following information:

o File Location:<New>
o File Name : DocCacheTrace
o File Size : 5000 KB
o File Type : Diagnostics
o Click on Save and Close

8. Make sure that for the ‘Cache Trace’ row under the column ‘File Log’, the log file created in step 7 is selected.
9. On the Diagnostics Configuration window, go to File > Save and Close.
