Multiple "mstrexec-iserver" process instances are seen in MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 9.x and 10.x on Linux machines

SYMPTOM:
Users notice multiple instances of the "mstrexec-iserver" processes in Strategy Intelligence Server 9.x and 10.x on Linux machines:

ka04W000000OhKmQAK_0EM4400000029xO.png

mstrexec-iserver -w /mstr/mstrhome/IntelligenceServer/Instances/DUMMY_SERVER -t status-iserver.xml ...

CAUSE:
One possible cause is that DUMMY_SERVER Intelligence Server instances were left over from previous unsuccessful attempts to configure the Intelligence Server using the Strategy Configuration Wizard. This can happen particularly on a Linux operating system platform, where the default ksh shell has not been switched over to use the alternative 'pdksh' shell.

ACTION:
The kill command can be safely used to terminate the DUMMY_SERVER instances (identified by the name DUMMY_SERVER appearing in the executing command). Once the instances have been killed, the following command can be run to remove the DUMMY_SERVER instances data source from the registry (if needed - otherwise this is removed automatically the next time the Intelligence Server is configured):

./mstrctl -s IntelligenceServer di DUMMY_SERVER
