KB38622: How to specify an attribute's ID form to appear in a selector while the target grid/graph has a different set of attribute forms in MicroStrategy Developer and Web 10.x

Stefan Zepeda

When a selector is created in a Report Services document, the elements that appear in the selector are typically expected to match with the ones the users would see in the target grid and/or graph. However, there may be a specific user requirement that the selector should list ID form elements while the target shows DESC or other forms.

When a selector is created in a Report Services document, the elements that appear in the selector are typically expected to match with the ones the users would see in the target grid and/or graph. However, there may be a specific user requirement that the selector should list ID form elements while the target shows DESC or other forms.
Once selector is created from the grid or graph in the dataset, you cannot edit which form's element to appear in the selector. Therefore, you need to make sure that the desired form is selected as display form when the selector is created. Strategy Tutorial is used to illustrate:

  • Create a report with the Customer attribute. Select only ID form in the grid, and keep FirstName and LastName forms in Report Object Window only.

  • Create a document with this grid report and add a selector.

  • Execute the document in Editable Mode, then, display "Dataset Objects" window. Notice that Last Name and First Name forms are listed in Dataset Objects while Selector and Grid in the document has only ID.

  • Right click on Last Name and First Name, then, drag the cursor to the grid. Notice that the forms are added to the grid, while the selector still shows ID form elements only.

  • If desired, you can remove ID forms from the grid.

While forms that appear on a grid can be edited in the document, form element to appear in the selector can be specified only when the selector is created. If adding the selector from this setting, the forms used in the grid appear.
