KB38840: "Unable to complete the export request due to the memory governing limit for Excel exporting." error message is seen when running a PPE (Personalized Page Execution) service in MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x

After executing a Personalized Page Execution (PPE) service in MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x that exports to an Excel document, the following message is displayed inside of the document: "Unable to complete the export request due to the memory governing limit for Excel exporting."

SYMPTOM:
After executing a Personalized Page Execution (PPE) service in Strategy Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x that exports to an Excel document, the following message is displayed inside of the document:

Unable to complete the export request due to the memory governing limit for Excel exporting.

 

 
CAUSE:
One cause of this message is that the governing limits which are configured at the Information Source Module level for Excel file generation have been exceeded.
 
ACTION:
To fix this issue increase maximum memory consumption for Excel file generation under Information Source Module configuration as shown below:

  • Open the Narrowcast Administration Console and under 'Administration' go to 'Information Source Modules'
  • Edit the information source module and select define as shown below:

  • Click on 'advanced properites' which will bring up the Strategy Intelligence Server properties window:

  • Increase the number of memory consumption. There is no recommended size of memory consumption. The number varies depending on many factors, such as document formatting, number of datasets, etc.

 
Note: All Personalized Page Execution exports are done on the Narrowcast Server machine.
