KB38935: "DB Instance object 'Object Name' (ID: Object GUID) cannot be deleted because Catalog object 'Warehouse Catalog' (ID: Object GUID) in project 'Project Name' (ID: Project GUID) depends on it" when deleting a database instance object

This article explains how to solve an issue that may arise when there are dangling dependencies even after the database instance is not available to a project.

SYMPTOM:
When the user deletes a database instance object in Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x, the following warning occurs:

ka04W000000uGExQAM_0EM440000002DOv.jpeg

DB Instance object 'Object Name' (ID: Object GUID) cannot be deleted because Catalog object 'Warehouse Catalog' (ID: Object GUID) in project 'Project Name' (ID: Project GUID) depends on it.

In the project configuration, this database instance object is not selected in any of the projects in the metadata.

CAUSE:
A database instance object can be unchecked from a project available database instance list only if there is no dependency on a project. In this case, for some reason, there are still dangling dependencies even after the database instance is not available to a project.

ACTION:
In order to remove all dangling dependencies, please follow steps below:

  1. Open the project configuration for the project shown in the warning message.
  2. Go to "Database Instances"
  3. Check the check box of the database instance that the user wants to remove.
  4. Click "OK" to save the project configuration.
  5. Re-launch the project configuration
  6. Go to "Database Instances"
  7. Uncheck the check box of the database instance in step 3.
  8. Click "OK" to save the project configuration.
  9. Now the database instance object can be removed.

If this workaround does not work, please contact Strategy Technical Support for further assistance.
