Community Admin

• Strategy

When a user attempts to export a document to PDF from MicroStrategy Web that contains an image with an absolute path on a different server, the image may not render in the document.  Exports to Microsoft Excel will properly render the image.

SYMPTOMS:
When a user attempts to export a document to PDF from Strategy Web that contains an image with an absolute path on a different server, the image may not render in the document.  Exports to Microsoft Excel will properly render the image.

CAUSE:
Images hosted on the network can be accessed differently based on environment security, when exporting to PDF versus exporting to Excel.

ACTION:
Administrators should ensure that the image located on the network has at least read+execute permissions granted for end users.

  • In Windows, this can be set on the 'Security' tab in the image properties:

  • For Unix, the chmod command can be used to set read and execute permissions.
