User receives the error message below when try to write files to a shared network location using Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x, even though the user account that runs the Narrowcast Server has 'Full Control' permissions under Security for the network location specified.

SYMPTOM:
User receives the error message below when try to write files to a shared network location using Narrowcast Server 9.x - 10.x, even though the user account that runs the Narrowcast Server has 'Full Control' permissions under Security for the network location specified.


Temporary delivery failure: FileStreamLib::FileImpl::WriteToFile: ::Failed to write to file : 'xxx'.
MFileSystem::File::OpenDescriptor: ::CreateFileW failed for 'xxx'.
System Error 0x00000005 (5): --- Access is denied.

 
CAUSE:
The user may have full Security permissions for the shared network location, but they do not have Sharing permissions.
 
ACTION:

  • Right click 'Properties' of the folder trying to write to on the shared network location.
  • Go to the 'Sharing' tab.  Click on 'Advanced Sharing'.

  • In the Advanced Sharing window, click on 'Permissions'.

  • Add the user to the list and give them 'Full Control'. Narrowcast Server should now be able to write to the shared network location.
