• Strategy

This article explains how to change the project image so it displays differently for each project using the MicroStrategy Web SDK 9.x

The example provided in this document is provided “as-is” to the user and assumes that the user:

  • Can program, compile (e.g. javac, jikes, etc.), and execute Java programs
  • Can configure environment variables (e.g. JAR files, property files, etc.)
  • Have all the necessary tools to create Java applications (JDK, IDE, etc.)
  • Has access to the Strategy SDK documentation.
  • Has read the customization warning at the bottom of this document

PREREQUISITES:
For the sample to work, the Strategy Web JAR files must be accessible by the Java Runtime
Environment. The Strategy Web JAR files can be found under:

  • Strategy Web Universal (JSP): {web_root}/WEB-INF/lib directory.
  • Strategy Web (.NET): Program Files\Common Files\Strategy directory.

Note:
More elaborate programs will require additional library files and are out of the scope of this document.
1. Launch the Web Customization Editor.
2. Click on Strategy Web Configuration inside the Application Settings view to expand the hierarchical tree. The expanded list comprises the different settings that can be modified to perform customizations.
3. Click Styles to expand the folder and see all of its children.
4. Find the ProjectsStyle and right click it.  Select Create Transform.
5. Enter your Source folder, Package, Name, and Transform Description.  Try to make this descriptive.
6. Next to Superclass, click Browse…
7. Enter ProjectsTransform in the text field, then select it once you see it.
8. Click OK, then Click Next >.
9. Check the box next to void renderProjectImage(com.Strategy.web.beans.MarkupOutput out, com.Strategy.web.app.ProjectInformation projectInfo, com.Strategy.web.beans.WebEvent event)
10. Click Next >, then Finish.
11. In the pane that opens up, remove the “return ;” line and add the following code in its place:

Tag anchor = generateAnchor(event);
ImageTag img = getTagsFactory().newImageTag();
img.setSrc("/MicroStrategy/plugins/style/images/"+projectInfo.getProjectName()+".gif"); //note that this can be a different file extension
anchor.addChild(img);
anchor.render(out);

12. Save the transform.
13. Click on Strategy Web Configuration inside the Application Settings view to expand the hierarchical tree. The expanded list comprises the different settings that can be modified to perform customizations.
14. Click Styles to expand the folder and see all of its children.
15. Find the ProjectsStyle and double click it.
16. In the pane that opens, select Change.
17. Enter the name you chose in step 5 and select OK.
18. Save the ProjectsStyle
19. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the Strategy\plugins\\style\images folder.
20. Inside of this folder, place an image with the name of each project.
21. Restart the Strategy Web server and navigate to the Welcome Page to see the change.
