Connectivity to an Oracle database from MicroStrategy DB Query tool 9.x or 10.x or any other MicroStrategy product using a DSN created with the MicroStrategy ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver fails with the following error.

SYMPTOM
Connectivity to an Oracle database from Strategy DB Query tool 9.x or 10.x or any other Strategy product using a DSN created with the Strategy ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver fails with the following error:
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLDriverConnect.... Connection Dead.....Unexpected Network Error.

It is seen that the connection attempt to the same Oracle server is successful outside of Strategy from a 3rd party tool such as ODBC Test when using the native Oracle driver.

The connectivity attempt fails from ODBC Test with the same error when using a DSN created with the Strategy ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver.

It is seen that connectivity attempt to other Oracle servers is successful from Strategy DB Query Tool using a DSN created with Strategy ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver. In other words, this issue is seen with particular Oracle server and not others.

CAUSE
This issue can be seen because of specific parameters set in the sqlnet.ora or listener.ora configuration files for the Oracle server

ACTION
Compare the sqlnet.ora and listener.ora configuration files from the working and non-working environments and identify differences in parameters that can lead to such issues. For information about sqlnet.ora and applicable parameters, refer to the following:
