KB40091: New Feature in MicroStrategy Web 9.3.0: Dynamic Metric Aliasing

Starting in Strategy Web 9.3.0, users can configure a report to allow prompt answer to be added to the name of a metric, thus dynamically aliasing the metric. Stand-alone prompts are supported; however, embedded prompts are not supported.
 
Users may find this feature useful, for example, when comparing results via re-prompting. For example, the user would like to see the product name on a metric change, each time a different product is picked when re-prompting.
 
To dynamically alias a metric, follow the following steps:

• Right-click on the header and select "Rename/Edit" as shown below.
  
  

• As shown in the screen shot below, in the Rename/Edit Objects Window, select the "Replace dynamic text" checkbox as shown below. Then to provide the prompt answer in the metric alias, use the following syntax.

• The alias name will then show the path for the specified prompt - see screen shot below.
  
  

• Click OK. 
• Re-run the report and select a prompt answer. In this case 'Year' = 2011
• As shown in the screen shot below, the metric will then be aliased with the prompt answer.
