KB402618: The search functionality of a list control, pull down style transaction services input does not allow to select an element form its search results in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1.

This article describes an issue that occurs when the Search function for transactions has "Show by default" enabled

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.4.1, in a Transaction Services document users can configure the transaction input as a List control style and pull down display style. The input for this can be set to a dataset. If the attribute in the dataset returns a large number of elements, the input will provide a search box for fast access to the elements. However, users will notice that when typing into the searchbox and selecting an element from the search results, the input box does not populate with the element selected, as shown below:

This occurs when "Show by default" is enabled for the transaction element.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
In Strategy Tutorial,

  • Open the "Opportunity Management" document in Design Mode.
  • Right-click the transaction to go to  "Configure Transaction".
  • For the first two inputs, Competitor and Estimated Closing Date, change the settings to the following:

    Control Style - List
    Display Style - Pull Down
    Input Type - Dataset
    Source - Report Actions
Attribute - Action Date. This is so that there are enough elements to enable the search box.

  • For "Competitor", also enable "Show by default", as shown below:

  • Run the document in Express mode.
  • For "Competitor", which has "Show by default" enabled, click on the dropdown and select an element. Notice that the selection populates the box as expected. This is shown below:

  • However, if instead, the user begins typing something like "29" into the search box, the search results will appear, like shown below.

  • Select any element. Notice that the box remains blank
  • Still using "Competitor", click on the dropdown and select any element. Notice that it no longer populates the box at all.
  • For comparison purposes, test the "Estimated closing date" input, which has "Show by default" disabled. Begin typing "29" into the search box and select any element from the search results. Notice that it populates the box as expected. Any change to the selection will still populate the box properly.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web 9.4.1-10.x.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.

WORKAROUND:
This issue only occurs after using the Search function for transactions that have "Show by default" enabled. To avoid this issue, either disable "Show by default", or refrain from using the Search function to select an input element.
