This knowledge base article describes a known issue in MicroStrategy Web 9.3.0 where the Y axis labels for the Time Series Widget do not match the metric formatting for a selected metric when the "inherit graph formatting" option is selected in the Widget properties. Contact MicroStrategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.

SYMPTOM:
When a graph with multiple metrics, each having its own formatting, is configured as a Time Series Widget on a Flash dashboard with a metric selector, the formatting of the Y axis label does not change to match the selected metrics when the widget property "inherit graph formatting" is applied, in Strategy Web 9.3.0.
In the image below, Profit Margin was configured as percent.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. In Strategy Tutorial, create a report having the Month attribute on rows and Revenue, Profit Margin, Units Sold, Item count metrics on the columns.
  2. Format the Revenue metric as currency, and the Profit Margin as a percent. The other metrics can remain with the default formatting.
  3. Execute the report and save it as a Horizontal Line Graph.
  4. Use this report as a dataset for a Dashboard, place it on the layout, and configure the graph as a Time Series Widget.
  5. Add a metric selector to the layout and target the Times Series Widget.
  6. Execute the dashboard in Flash mode, right click on the widget to access the properties and select “Inherit Graph Formatting".
  7. Notice that no matter which metric is chosen, the formatting of the Y Axis label will remain the same.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue with Strategy Web 9.3.0.
ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.
WORKAROUND:
If the user does not require specific graph formatting to be applied, unchecking the "inherit graph formatting" option will allow the Y axis labels to match the selected metric formatting.
