KB40530: Bulk export fails even though the report has information on it and a delivery message is sent in Distribution Services

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
Bulk export reports are reports that have been converted into a bulk export object. These reports require data (metrics) to be placed on the report in order for them to count as returning data. By default, if a report or bulk export report does not return data, then its delivery will be skipped. This is configurable through the Project Level configuration settings.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a report with the following attributes: Year, Month, Day
2. Run the report. Notice that information is displayed in the grid mode.
3. Convert this report into a bulk export.
4. Schedule the bulk export report to delivery.
5. The bulk export will fail for delivery with the following error in the DSSErrors.log despite having the following email message.

Sample Code/Error
2012-07-03 12:53:17.659-05:00 Distribution Service: MSIDeliveryEngine::Delivery: The report <Report Name> does not return any data. Skip delivery.

CAUSE:
The objects are on the report are all attributes, thus producing no data.

ACTION:
To have this report send out with only attributes on the report, enable delivery to always be sent despite not having metrics on the report. This setting can be found in Project Configuration > Deliveries > Error handling. Otherwise, include metrics on the report to bring back information.
